Green Schools Ceremony

24/10/2014

We are glad to announce that we have achieved our goal and got the Biodiversity Flag!
Joan Tarmey came to the school to examine the work the greens schools did over the year. We passed the test!!
The green schools ceremony was held on the 24/10/2014. We were joined by John Crowe the major of Clare, John Corbett and Rita Higgins.
Mr Heagney started off with a speech to acknowledge the work the green schools committee. Aobha Ward Murphy spoke about the committees trip to Seed Savers, Saoirse Downes then spoke about what the committee had been doing all year, and to finish it off John Crowe acknowledged the schools work before raising the flag with two 5th class members.
Ms Touhy and the school choir sang the anthem while they raised the flag!
The committee put a lot of effort into learning about biodiversity, but had a lot of fun too.

Hurling off to a great start in 2014/15!!!

Ard Scoil Rís Hurling Tournament

On Saturday 4th of October a Sixmilebridge N.S team of Conor Maxwell, Conor Morey, Leon Kelly, Matthew Hurley, Luke Keogh, Luke O’ Halloran, Dylan Downes, Evan Murphy, Colin Kelly, Alex Carmello O’ Donnell, Eli Murphy O’ Sullivan, Eoin Morby, James Egan, Will Fitzpatrick, Mark Cleary and Óran O’ Reilly travelled to Ard Scoil Rís for a nine a side hurling tournament.

They got ready for their first match and went out to play Crecoora N.S. Sixmilebridge got a few early goals with great skill and showed everyone that they were there to compete. They drove them out of the game in the second half and won it by a great difference. In the second game they played Christ the King N.S, they were a great side and caused a lot of problems for the bridge team in the first half but the bridge held on and in the second half, although they were losing, they held on and won the game by a goal. They had a two hour break before their next match.

In the semi- final they played Clonlara N.S, they were a great side but they were no match for the strength of the great bridge team. It was a great final with great skill and determination from both teams but it wasn’t Shountrade N.S. Adare’s day and Sixmilebridge came out on top. There was immense cheering when Leon Kelly lifted up the cup for the first time in the school’s history. Leon was then announced as the player of the tournament!!!
